Description: A woody vine that forms thickets or climbs other vegetation by tendrils attached to the petiole. The leaves are alternate, simple and either heart shaped or rounded. The stems are green and armed with sharp prickles. The have greenish flowers that bloom from april through august and they produce berry like fruit that are bluish black.


Habitat: This plant may form impenetrable patches around clearings, roadsides, and in open woods. It is often found along moist edges of swampy woods and in drier upland areas.
